Nachdem Entwickler VIA langsam die VT8235 Southbridge in den Ruhestand schickt, will auch SiS die SiS 963L auf das Abstellgleis schieben. Der Nachfolger trägt die Bezeichnung SiS 964 und soll unter anderem über zwei zusätzliche USB-Ports und nativen Serial-ATA Support verfügen. Erste Chipsätze sollen ab dem dritten Quartal 2003 gemeinsam mit der neuen Southbridge erhältlich sein...
"June 11, 2003 Taipei -Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a leading supplier of core logic chipsets, today announces its new product SiS964-- the latest South Bridge chipset that perfectly integrates the SiS180 chip. Adapting the high-speed interface Serial ATA, SiS964 provides peripheral storage equipment with the doubled-speed data process scheduling.
Integrating the Serial ATA high-speed interface, the latest SiS964 South Bridge chipset supports dual-channel parallel PATA with two independent Serial ATA 150 ports, providing a 150MB/Sec data transfer rate. Also, the excellent hot-plug function enables Serial ATA devices to be upgraded and replaced without shutting down the computer. Compared with traditional PATA, the size of cables of Serial ATA apparently reduces and consequently consumes less motherboard space. Built with eight USB2.0 ports, the SiS964 supports Dolby digital 5.1 channel, V.90 data transfer and the Ethernet, and can be easily connected with related equipment. Moreover, the new SiS964 also supports multi RAID modules, including RAID0, RAID1 and JBOD; thus significantly promotes the stability of operating environment and the system performance. With SiS´ innovative technology HyperStreaming™ Engine, the SiS964 chipset can improve the system delay under multi-tasking and efficiently upgrade the system performance.
